Fundraising

For many people, the idea of raising $3,500 dollars can be as daunting as the idea of climbing a 14,000 foot mountain. You can do both! We've included a comprehensive fundraising strategy in your Welcome Packet, full of ideas and inspiration from past climbers and professional fundraisers alike. It'll help you identify what tactics will work best for you, and provide you with the tools you'll need for a successful and fun experience.

Fundraising Tools

An online fundraising page is provided to every climber. Using it, your friends and family can donate with a credit card or online check. Upload your own photos and stories, and use the page to track fundraising progress, thank donors, and send emails to friends and family that care about helping kids experiences the wilderness. We'll also supply letterhead and reply devices for donors who warrant a handwritten note.

BAWT also accepts corporate matching gifts and donations of stock. See your Climber's Packet for a list of companies that are known to offer matching gifts, or search an online network of companies that match gifts given by or to their employees. Click here to search the network. Note: This list is not comprehensive, so if you don't find the company you're looking for, please contact your HR department directly for more details.

Tax Deductible Donations

BAWT is a project of Earth Island Institute, a 501 c (3) corporation, Tax ID number 94-2889684. Most donations made on behalf of your climb are tax-deductible. If you donate on behalf of your own climb, the tax-deductible amount of your donation is equal to the total donation minus the value of goods and services you have received in return. This amount varies amongst the climbs so check with your Climb Coordinator for specifics.

How The Money Is Used

Bay Area Wilderness Training (BAWT) works with over 200 youth agencies, helping them create and implement outdoor education programs. Working directly with these groups has enabled BAWT to help over 5,000 kids experience the wilderness. The money you raise is used to fund BAWT programs like our Gear Loan Library, Wilderness Leadership Training, and Vanpool. It also supports first-time camping experiences like our Camping at the Presidio program. For more information visit www.bawt.org or read more about BAWT and the youth we serve.

Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers on each climb to thank them for their extra efforts to get kids outside. The Prizes

Deposit

A $500 deposit is required to reserve your spot on a Climbing for Kids trip. This deposit is refundable only when you reach your fundraising goal, and will be refunded on request within two weeks of completion of your climb.

Deadline

Update:
We are extending the fundraising deadline to the date of your climb for anyone who registers from now onward. Check out the details here.

All fundraising is due 30 days in advance of your climb. At that time you will be charged for any remaining balance on your fundraising goal. You can continue to fundraise up until your climb ends. At that time you may qualify for a refund of your deposit in addition to donations you made toward your balance.
