The Climb

Orizaba is the third tallest peak in North America. During the winter months it offers climbers the opportunity to practice glacier travel at high elevation. The mountain is considered a stepping stone for high elevation climbs worldwide, and it's a great objective for climbers seeking nice weather during the off-season.

The most popular time to climb Orizaba is during the winter. This is Mexico's dry season and as the months progress, weather tends to stabilize. It is better to climb earlier in the winter before the weather increases the probability of crevasses opening. This is a very tall mountain, so cold weather clothing is a must. In fact, Orizaba is the testing ground to see if trees can grow on Mars, so you know it's going to be cold!
