Guide: Go Trek / Northwest Mountain Guides
Route: Coleman / Deming Glacier
Difficulty: intermediate, glacier and snow
Rope Team: 3 climbers, 1 guide
Day 1: Fly into Seattle. Stay overnight in hotel near Sea-Tac Airport or drive to Bellingham, WA approximately three hours north on I-5.
Day 2: Meet in the town of Glacier, located one hour northeast of Bellingham. Hike approximately three and a half hours to high camp and cover mountaineering basics.
Day 3: Summit day for Mount Baker (10,781 feet). Get a pre-dawn start and reach the summit in late morning after six to eight hours of climbing.
Mount Baker is located in the North Cascades mountain range of Washington State and stands at 10,781 feet. Mount Baker is the second most glaciated peak in the lower continental United States, second only to Mount Rainier. In 1999, Mount Baker experienced over 1,140 inches of snow to break the world record of snowfall in a single season.
Climbers should plan to arrange their own transportation to and from the mountain. Bay Area Wilderness Training will assist in organizing carpools to and from the airport. Additional information will be available in your Orientation Packet and at the pre-trip meeting.
There are plenty of hotels and motels in the Mount Baker ski area and in Glacier near the meeting point.
